Tom Clancy's EndWar moves the RTS from PC to consoles and I get to work on it.
I really get to do some of the coolest stuff. Not the least of which is consulting in the videogame industry. Now let me say this up front. I'm not a Ubisoft fanboy or paid spokesman. I am however a huge fan of their work. My love dates back to "The Fifth Element" videogame based on the movie for PC. Throw in the Clancy portfolio of games (Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, Rayman and a host of other titles) and you have one of the few true "power hitters" in the videogame biz. Add that in my opinion they're the company that gets it right when dealing with military content and it would make sense that I would find some way to work with them.
The "Tom Clancy EndWar" title has provided just that opportunity. I have worked on the Ghost Recon titles (see cool screenshots in the photos section) but now I'm getting paid. To put the icing on the cake, this is the first new IP (intellectual property, jeez read a book) from Ubisoft in a while.
Quick synopsis: In the near future the world comes off its era of peace due to enhanced defense technology that all but eliminated the threat of war. However, constant depletion of natural resources, some countries large "stores" and disagreements over who should own/manage said "stores" touch off World War 3.
In the game you get to play as one of three armies representing the US, Russia or Europe. Those armies fight in massive multiplayer battles that encompass huge numbers of personnel and machines and strech over the landscape. You'll get traditional RTS commands mapped to the controller (EndWar will be released on PS3 and Xbox 360) but will also have the option to command your forces via voice command. Thus giving you the feel of a true leader commanding your forces. The vehicle and character models are stunning and the gameplay footage is blow your socks off cool. Here's the game trailer. If this doesn't get you fired up about dropping $50 on a game I don't know what will!
Hopefully I'll get to add more about it soon.
